I have isolated a gram negative lactose fermenter which is indole and methyl red positive, citrate negative, urease positive and actively motile organism. Triple sugar iron agar shows acidic butt and alkaline slant with no gas and no Hydrogen sulphide production. can u help me
Suggest you perform phenylalaninie deaminase test. Isolate could be a Morganella spp. if PAD positive. Could also be a Proteus hauseri or P. vulgaris that is H2S negative. If PAD is negative, could be one of the Citrobacter species. Recommend you consult Tables in Chapter 6 of Koneman's Color Atlas and Textbook of Diagnostic Microbiology, 6th ed. 2006, for list of additional tests for further separation of these species.
