Thanks for your interest in ASM's Askit. The small colony isolates of groups A, C and G streptococci are streptococcus anginosus/milleri group. They are all VP-positive and arginine-positive, the only streptococcal group positive for these two biochemicals. Conventional tests or kit testing that includes these substrates is acceptable. The colonies are very small (pinpoint at 24 h) compared to normal large colony groups, and usually have a buttery or carmamel smell (don't intentionally smell, however, the odor is strong enough that one normally notes it while doing usual work).
