Although I direct a laboratory at a children's hospital that sees many patients with cystic fibrosis, we do not do our own AFB cultures so your question is not an issue here. However, I recommend that you look into use of a product designed to facilitate quality control testing of urine dipsticks. One such product (there may be others as well) is the Bayer Diagnostics Chek-Stix, a urinalysis control strip for specific gravity, pH, protein, glucose, ketone, bilirubin, blood, nitrite, and urobilinogen. The strip is placed into distilled water to allow embedded reagents to dissolve, which provides solutions of the preceding analytes at known concentrations or values.
