Chapter 74 of the 8th edition of the asm Manual of Clinical Microbiology discusses VRE screening. The authors recommend using on the VRE screening agars with 10 mcg/mL of vancomycin. Using this higher concentration of vancomycin increases the specificity the the screen by eliminating enterococci with the vanC gene which is expressed by a lower level of vancomycin resistance (MIC=6-8 mcg/mL). If you choose to use the BBE agar you mentioned you will have to determine the identification of the enterococci growing on that medium in order to identify E. fecalis and E. faecium.
