What blood culture system is best for recovering yeast? Is an automated system such as BacT/Alert adequate or is the Isolator system preferred?
I think that more work has been done with the BACTEC system for the recovery of yeasts but the BacT/Alert should be fine as well. Most common yeasts are easily recovered by all commercial systems; there has been some question about the recovery of Cryptococcus neoformans but I do not think that it is a major problem. The Isolator is best used for the recovery of dimorphic fungi. I hope that this is of help to you. Glenn Roberts Mayo Clinic We hope that we were able to answer your question.
