Is it possible that a VISA/VRSA could be missed by following the FDA vancomycin breakpoints vs CLSI breakpoints? We use a MicroScan.
When testing vancomycin for S. aureus on automated systems using FDA (rather than CLSI) interpretive criteria, all isolates with MICs of 4 mcg/ml should be analyzed more carefully for reduced susceptibility to vancomycin.
