should sensitivity be performed on group a beta strep from a wound culture?
It is not necessary to routinely perform susceptibility testing on group A streptococcus isolates for clinical purposes because they are predictably susceptible to penicillins and cephalosporins. This information is included in the CLSI document M-100-S17. We attach the following comment to all group A streptococcus isolates: “Group A streptococcus is predictably susceptible to penicillin and cephalosporins. Surveillance testing of regional isolates has shown 20% resistance to both erythromycin and clindamycin.” We hope that we were able to answer your question.
