WE DID A SKIN STREP TEST WITH A DX OF 691.0, WHAT WOULD BE THE CPT CODE? THANKS, KERRY
|

I assume you did a rapid test for group A strep. If that is correct, there are 3 cpt 4 codes:
87430 if you did an EIA
87880 if you did an optical immuno assay
86403 if you did a Latex test.
The diagnosis is contact dermatitis, so it likely would be covered if it was a culture. If the direct test is not cleared by the FDA for skin specimens, I am not sure that it would be covered. However, it is worth a try. I understand that they do work if it is group A. Of course, an infecton with another organism could be involved and a culture shoudl be done.
We hope that we were able to answer your question.
